“Glass forms part of my practice because it carries light, reflection and fragility within its surface. Painting in reverse asks me to surrender some control, allowing the image to unfold ”

Process

Her practice centres on reverse glass painting, using glass as both a painting surface and an integral part of the work. Painting on the reverse requires the image to be built in layers and in reverse order, combining careful planning with intuitive decision-making. Marks are made knowing they cannot easily be altered, giving the process a sense of precision and immediacy.
The transparency, reflectivity and fragility of glass influence the colour, line and composition of each work, while changing light alters the way the image is perceived. Through this process, painting becomes a balance between control and uncertainty, with the qualities of the glass shaping the final work as much as the artist’s intention.
