About

Deb is a handweaver, fascinated by the transformation of thread into cloth and the role materials play in the making process.
Tactility is important to her, and she pays particular attention to the surface and the structure of the cloth she makes, its drape and weight, how it feels as well as how it looks.
Her homewares celebrate the comforting softness of wool and the colours and patterns of both urban and natural landscapes while her art pieces are inspired by the endangered art of passementerie and invite you to explore the journey of each element and the spaces between them.

“I’m inspired by the materials I use, how they look and feel and how they interact with the loom and my hands. Planning and design are crucial but the making process is often where the magic happens.”

Deb King

Process

Deb carefully selects her wool from UK mills and is working to increase her use of fully traceable yarns from British farms. Her design and making process aims to highlight the beauty of the materials through simple, timeless designs. As well as her stock and made to order range she enjoys working to commission to ensure pieces perfectly complement your interior spaces.
Her artwork is made using very fine deadstock silk threads which she hand-spins into cords before placing each one in the narrow warps. The traditional patterns of luxury braids and trimmings are reinterpreted and enlarged to show the intricate pathways of each cord in pieces that are both familiar and intriguing.
